The Rainbow Warrior - Airs April 24th

On the Deck of the Rainbow Warrior from the Greenpeace Podcast The Rainbow Warrior is an undisputed icon; synonymous with breaking boundaries and fearless campaigning. In July 1985, the original Rainbow Warrior was sunk after explosives were attached to her hull. One crew member was killed. Greenpeace did not stop their activism at sea however, and the French government eventually took responsibility for the attack. We'll hear how their current ship, Rainbow Warrior III , which  launched in 2011, is a sustainability green dream. Water is Wide from Everything is Stories For over 30 years, Peter Willcox has been a sea captain for Greenpeace, an organization which uses non-violent, creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems. Willcox helps international campaigns against whaling, anti-nuclear activities, and global warming. We will learn of his experiences growing up in an activist family, his first protest at sea, being attacked by the French government,

MinneCulture Hearts Poetry - Airs April 17th

MinneCulture Hearts Poetry from KFAI Come celebrate National Poetry Month with the crew of MinneCulture producers. While looking over their collective body of work, I realized it wouldn't even be possible to fit all of their stories into a one-hour episode. I'll air as many as I can though! We'll hear some of our best stories about Minnesotan poets Danez Smith , Linda LeGarde Grover , Sun Yung Shin , David Mura , Anthony Ceballos , and others. Alongside profiles of Twin Cities spoken-word-scene giants  Adina Burke and Danny Klecko , plus Nicholle Ramsey , who has redefined the Winona poetry scene. We'll hear from poet song-writers Dessa and Brian Laidlaw too. This episode features stories from Emily Bright , Britta Greene , Britt Aamodt , Jared Goyette , Diane Richard , Sylvia Thomas , and sound artist Dixie Treichel .

Transformed - Airs April 10th

Transformations of a white supremacist and a jihadi extremist   from Reckonings Frank Meeink  was a white supremacist who became a top neo-Nazi leader and recruiter. Jesse Morton was one of the most  prolific jihadi  propagandists in the US. Both men have since recanted their beliefs, but what caused the pair to look beyond their ideologies?  We'll explore that and  why it is they joined these violent extremist movements at all. Producer  Stephanie Lepp  seeks to  find what then moved them to abandon their lives of hate. Her podcast,  Reckonings , continually  explores how people come to change their hearts and minds.

Sufi Melange + Casey O’Brien - Airs April 3rd

Sufi Melange Live from Minnesota  First we'll hear a performance of poetry sung by North Indian classical vocalist Dr. Pooja Goswami Pavan . Her original arrangements feature instruments both traditional like tabla, dholak, bouzouki, and also contemporary, like acoustic guitar, electric bass, and keyboard. An English translation of the text is provided by a narrator before each tune. Produced by Daniel Zamzow for MinneCulture, this presentation features excerpts from the 2015 concert at Normandale Community College in Bloomington as well as perspectives by members of the ensemble. Additional performers are: Greg Herriges on bouzouki and guitar, Tushar Ahmed on bass as well as guitar, Vinod Krishnan at the keys, percussion and dholak played by Abhinav Sharma, Dr. A.
