Womenfolk Anniversary Concert Celebration from Minneculture In September of 2017, KFAI honored Womenfolk , one of the longest running women's music shows in the country, with a concert at Hook and Ladder Theater and Lounge in Minneapolis. Womenfolk host Ellen Stanley celebrates with performances from Ellis , Reina del Cid , Prairie Fire Lady Choir , Vicky Emerson , Mary Bue , Mother Banjo , and other friends. dVRG + The Icicles - Airs Jan 24th

deVon Gray Live from Minnesota Multi-instrumentalist, classically trained composer, and St. Paul native deVon Russell Gray - or dVRG  - has made his mark in the TC music scene through a myriad of projects. He's even had multiple appearances in the " Live from Minnesota " series playing with jazz, rock, rap, and Somali hip-hop acts. In this installment however, we're going to hear his piece “Fractious Child." It's a string quartet which premiered at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis. Produced by KFAI’s Daniel Zamzow , the recording features not only the entire performance, but also reflections from the composer and his ensemble of local string players: David Auerbach, Sam Bergman, Michelle Kinney, and Jacqueline Ultan. The Jayhawks  Live from Minnesota  A very special (and fantastic ) small venue show for local heroes the Jayhawks . Recorded live at St. Paul's cherished Turf Club . Featuring Gary Louris on guitar and lead vocals; Marc Perlman on bass; Tim O'Reagan on drums; Kraig Johnson on guitar; Jessy Greene on violin; Karen Grotberg on keyboards; and John Jackson on mandolin. Produced by Tom Garneau . Mason Jennings Live from Minnesota  Hard to believe but Mason Jennings has been  making music in Minnesota  for over 20 years. In this recording, Jennings performs at Sacred Heart Music Center in Duluth. This show features classic favorites and new selections from " Wild Dark Metal ," his newest album. The band consists of Jennings on acoustic and electric guitar, Jacob Hanson on bass and Scott McPherson on drums. Recorded, mixed, and produced by Tom Garneau .

PaviElle + Ayvah - Airs Jan 3rd

PaviElle Live from Minnesota PaviElle brings her own special brand of Neo-Soul to the stage in this performance at the historic Sheldon Theatre in Red Wing, Minnesota. The show was part of the Minnesota Music Coalition's Caravan du Nord and highlights songs from her " Fear Not " album. PaviElle French , Ahanti Young, and Tiyo Siyolo are heard on vocals with Ahanti Young also on djembe, Ted Godbout on keyboards, Cody McKinney on bass, and Nick Dodd on drums. Recorded, mixed, and produced by Tom Garneau for KFAI's Minneculture .  Ayvah Live from Minnesota In the second half of our show, the  jazz and funk influenced Twin Cities quintet Ayvah perform live at The Icehouse in Minneapolis. Ayvah is Ava McFarlane on vocals, Samuel Rosenstone on piano, DeCarlo Jackson on bass, Joey C. Hays on drums, and Andy Schupp on guitar. This "Live from Minnesota" concert was recorded by Ryan Mach.
