The Suburbs + Flamin' Oh's - Airs July 26th

The Suburbs Live from Minnesota
Founded in 1977, The Suburbs helped launch the punk rebellion that later became known as the Minneapolis Sound. Their quirky, humorous new-wave punk style crafted the vibe for many local clubs including the infamous Jay's Longhorn. We caught them at First Avenue in 2017 playing classics such as "Love is the Law" and "Rattle My Bones" plus the more recent "Turn The Radio On." Featuring original keyboardist and singer Chan Poling with original drummer Hugo Klaers, The Suburbs are joined by some relative newcomers. We greet Stevie Brantseg and Jeremy Ylvisaker playing guitars, Steve Price on bass, Janey Winterbauer provides backup vocals, Max Ray on saxophone, Rochelle Becker on Baritone Sax, and Stephen Kung on horns and keys. This show was recorded by Mike Birrenbach, mixed by Steve Price, and produced by Tom Garneau for KFAI's Minneculture.

 Flamin' Oh's Live from Minnesota 
A Twin Cities punk-pop staple from the 80's, the Flamin' Oh's began life as the band Flamingo. A threatened lawsuit lead to the name change and the Flamin' Oh's were born. Early hits from this show include "Stop" and "I Remember Romance." Recorded live at The Turf Club in Saint Paul by Tom Garneau. The Flamin' Oh's are Robert Wilkinson on guitar and vocals, Bob Burns on keyboards and vocals, Terry Isachsen on guitar, Jenny Case on bass guitar and vocals, and Sean Sauder on drums.

Computer Love - Airs Feb 19th

Love and Robots by Anton Foek Dr. David Levy ,  an expert in artificial intelligence,  argues that the automata we once deemed cold and mechanical will soon become the objects of real companionship as well as human desire. He explores many aspects of human relationships and how they have changed over time. Levy believes it inevitable that these same attachments will eventually extend to love for robots . Capturing Noise - Airs Nov 5th

Life in the City  from Noise: A Human History of Sound and Listening Professor David Hendy considers the comforts and irritations of next-door's noise . As cities grew, neighbor's hullabaloo became increasingly hard to escape. We will explore the writer Thomas Carlyle ’s grumpy attempts at soundproofing, before travelling to New York to imagine the teaming, boisterous world of the Lower East Side tenements in the early twentieth century. Capturing Sound from Noise: A Human History of Sound and Listening Sounds were ephemeral until recording technology made it possible to capture them. Professor Hendy of the University of Sussex introduces bottled moments from the past, including the voices of Robert Browning and Florence Nightingale as well as 9/11 answerphone messages.
