dVRG + The Icicles - Airs Jan 24th
deVon Gray Live from Minnesota
Multi-instrumentalist, classically trained composer, and St. Paul native deVon Russell Gray - or dVRG - has made his mark in the TC music scene through a myriad of projects. He's even had multiple appearances in the "Live from Minnesota" series playing with jazz, rock, rap, and Somali hip-hop acts. In this installment however, we're going to hear his piece “Fractious Child." It's a string quartet which premiered at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis. Produced by KFAI’s Daniel Zamzow, the recording features not only the entire performance, but also reflections from the composer and his ensemble of local string players: David Auerbach, Sam Bergman, Michelle Kinney, and Jacqueline Ultan.
The Icicles Live from Minnesota
We'll cozy up to a surf-dub-ambient instrumental side-project trio comprised of Jim Anton (Jonny Lang, Greazy Meal, Paul Westerberg) on bass with brothers Jacob Hanson (Mason Jennings, Haley Bonar, Halloween Alaska) on guitar and Jeremy Hanson (Tapes n’ Tapes, Actual Wolf, Frankie Lee) on drums. This concert was recorded live in 2015 at the Icehouse in Minneapolis by Alex Proctor. Produced and mixed by Tom Garneau for KFAI's Minneculture.
